What is Pulse!?πŸŽ΅πŸ’—πŸ€Έ‍β™‚οΈπŸ€ΈπŸΌ‍β™€οΈπŸ§˜πŸΎ‍β™‚οΈπŸ§Ž‍♂️

The date is 16 October, 2021 as I write this blurb, in preparation for the first two youth classes to run.  This is a bit of background about the concepts and ideas upon which I have created Pulse!. . .

This is a movement and music class, but it is much more than that.

Let's talk about the movement first.  I have amassed and developed loads of light but poignant exercises from a wide scope that ranges from classic aerobic and cardio to Pilates and yoga to tai chi and qi gong.   What we will use in class should be fun, very easy to follow and execute, with a gradual build-up of challenge.  Equally important here is that the participants understand exactly how to use their bodies and maintain the appropriate posturing so as not to cause injury from misuse.

How about the music side?  We are going to be listening to all music!  We cannot ignore pop and modern, so there will be a wee bit of music that comes from this broad category, but only a wee bit, because we will be listening to classical pieces as well.  Beyond this, we will be venturing into all sorts of world music, from traditional and classic to pop and modern music that hearkens from all corners of humanity.  There will be some segments of rest from movement in the class where we will just be listening to and discussing a piece of music.  Some of the music in class will be instrumental only, and some will have some sort of vocals to it.  Regardless of the language of the vocals, we will attempt to speak/sing a little of it, not because this class is a singing class, but because learning even just one or two phrases helps us to understand and connect with what we are listening to.  Despite being a singer myself, I didn't want this particular class to be about singing and performance - sometimes we need to feel free to use our voices and come as we are, just because we can.  And, it's quite fun to learn a few words in other languages and have a reason to use them!

Communication skill and teamwork - these will be well at work.  The participants will be developing themselves as much as they will be developing how they interact with one another.  Throughout the sessions, there will be numerous times in the class where the participants will get to talk about what we are doing movement-wise, what we are listening to, give reactions and observations.  This is a great strategy for making sure that there is engaged and meaningful learning.  In the first session, we will discuss how in the last session, there will be a short public demonstration (to a few close family members/care-givers) that we will give of our most favourite things learned and experienced.  I have no idea what this will be, because this will come from our working and learning together.  I love working like this as often as I can - building up loads of structure and content for a class, but then letting the character and nature of the group and its individuals pave the way.  The end result can only be exciting, meaningful, and ONE-OF-A-KIND!

By the way, I have used "participants" frequently in this blurb - these first classes launching on 2 and 4 November are for young people ages 7-11.  My intention is to create more classes like this for other age groups, mixed abilities, etc., so stay tuned to PULSE! updates to find out when the next classes will be launched  πŸ’–πŸ§‘πŸ’›πŸ’šπŸ’™πŸ’œ
